Tikanga a-Rongoa
These standards were published as part of the Maori Health Action Health Strategy Plan. The aim of the plan was to provide a framework for strengthening the provision ofquality rongoā services throughout Aotearoa. This work was guided by four goals:
The provision of safe and quality rongoā care to tūroro is paramount to the wellbeing of our communities. The development of this document has been a collaborative journey with representatives from the rongoā sector to define a benchmark of excellence for the delivery of safe and quality rongoā services throughout Aotearoa. This voluntary standard provides clear requirements for providers to attain. Guidance is provided in a separate toolkit booklet on how these can be achieved. Documenting both encourages and supports consistency of quality rongoā care and the ongoing development of the rongoā workforce.
The objectives of the Tikanga ā-Rongoā standards are to:
- improve the quality of rongoā services
- create leadership to strengthen safe practice through networking and quality assurance
- increase the capacity and capability of rongoā services
- adopt a work plan for research and evaluation activities.
